The mass meat producers in the United States have never been as abundant in the country as they are now. Companies like these have plenty of secrets that are kept closely guarded and need to be fixed as soon as conceivable. As the meat market grows, these companies are beginning to make dangerous sacrifices in their methods that can be potentially harful for us and very punishing for the animals. The workers for these huge companies are beginning to treat these animals in very inhumane ways and i've seen enough to prove that. Being a small meat producing farmer, this gives me a great outlook on what humane ways to produce animals are. We use such methods on our farm. However, in my research, I have found various videos of countless animals being brutally beaten before being deceased for processing. Cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys and others are all starting to be treated like food rather than a living species. Mass companies like these are horrible for the United States, mainly because the owners are so worried about money they tend to forget about correct raising and processing methods of the animals. That is when lives begin getting hurt, which is happening right now. My belief would be if we seperate mass meat producing companies into many small farms that we would see big improvements in processing methhods. The workers of the companies do not care for the animals or treat them the way they should be treated. Good farmers know the correct ways to treat and raise animals in very humane ways for processing. I feel that this is needed to help meat production return to correct, safe methods without sacrificing the comfort of the animals.
I have seen far enough to call these modern day meat processing methods cruel and unethical. The huge meat producers around the country that produce our meat on a daily basis have started to become more worried about their monthly income rather than the actual safety of the meat itself. Animals such as chickens, steers, pigs, and turkeys are being packed into tiny spaces and grown at a rate that their bodies can barely withstand. The scientific side to modern day meat production has become almost normal in the past ten to fifteen years. Scientists have begun being employed by the meat producers to genetically develop ways to make more abundant desirable meat cuts of the animals in a lot less time than nature intended. Chickens have often been the subjects of these cold-hearted methods for testing. The scientists are developing these ways to form adult body parts on chickens that are much too young for them. Most of the time when this faster meat method takes place, the chickens can only walk a few steps if any at all. Imagine yourself at age three with numerous adult body parts that refrain you from moving freely about. Does this all sound as cruel to you as it does to me? Many of these animals such as chickens or turkeys are often kept in the dark in hope of faster growth rates. Living your whole life in complete darkness while barely being able to walk is cruel for anyone, even animals such as these. This situation is not ethical by any means, especially when the animals are sacrificing their lives for us.
These animals are being horribly abused and beaten, but their health is not the only thing that we as U.S. citizens should be worried about. Dirty lifestyles of these huge famrs may be to blame for the disease ridden bacteria that have become exposed lately in meat on local and national food recalls. Ecoli, salmonella and many other diseases have been found in these various meats being recieved from mass meat producing companies. This situation is coming to a point where lives around our country are being lost or severely tampered with and still nothing is being done to change things. The living quarters for these animals are caked with fecies, covered in flies, and lacking any space for the animals to move. All of this should make you think about things. If it's not healthy for the animal, how can it be healthy for the meat they're carrying. The United States is over thirty percent farmland which should provide plenty of room for these animals that are packed shoulder to shoulder in large factory barns. All of this open land and companies still insist of cramming thousands of animals into one barn and growing them at a rate that is very unhealthy. All of these things being done to defenseless animals like this are horrible and need to be stopped.
It should be very clear by now that I do not agree with almost any aspect of America's modern day meat processing methods. Living on a small beef farm my whole life has dramatically influenced my point of view for this topic. The numerous animals on our farm get the utmost respect and care from my family mainly because they deserve it. Our pigs, goats and csttle are all provided with more than enough room to graze, fed very well, and treated like as well as a pet. This may be the reason why I think all of these meat production methods are so cruel in huge factory farms. I am just very adapted to seeing farm animals be treated with courtesy and civility. It is just horrible to see what these animals are being put through by some people who just want to make the extra cash. Even the workers of these companies should know that there is a better, more humane way to put these animals through processing. People rarely think about how the meat they eat was raised, how or what is was fed, if it was in a clean environment, or even if the animal was treated with the common courtesy that human beings should have for these defenseless creatur
