Amish Style Chicken and Dumplings
Ever since I have been little, my family has been taking me to Clifton Mill in Clifton, OH to see the christmas lights and for a bite to eat. There is a beautiful scenic river surrounding the transformed mill along with many walking paths and a delicious amish-based restraunt. My family and I have came to this restraunt on many occasions for breakfast, lunch, dinner and i've still never had a bad meal. They have a wide variety from potato cakes for breakfast to my utmost favorite meal chicken and dumplings. Their simple amish menu has always been very appetizing to me and I would like to share my love for this food.
The amish have been around for hundreds upon hundreds of years and their cooking has been around just as long. The Amish community have settled down in twenty two U.S. states and Ontario, Canada. Ohio and Pennsylvania have the highest population of Amish in the whole United States. With all the Amish surrounding us in Ohio, it's easy to see how we're coming across these scrumptious recipes. The Amish community have a unique way of getting their food and preparing it. They work very hard for every meal. Imagine having to grow, clean, havest, and prepare this food and all with no electricity at all. Maybe their meals are so appwaling because of the thought of fresh non-packaged or processed food.
Amish Style chicken and dumplings has become one of my very favorite dishes over the years. It is a blend of home raised chicken cooked with mixed veggies, served over dumplings covered with a thickened broth. I have tried various chicken and dumpling recipes but none can compete with the Amish styled recipe. If u want the dish to be originial you can't use electricity when you cook it! But either way it should turn out great.
This love I have for Amish based cooking could be influenced by the Clifton Mill restraunt or just the simplicity of Amish recipes. The Amish have never packaged their food or even had it referigerated. All of their food is always home-grown and fresh which probably has a lot to do with the amazing taste. It's just simply amazing how they can do all of this terribly hard work on their farms with absolutely no electricity at all.
