The demand for meat in the United States is the highest it has ever been. This makes me think, good this will give small local farmers a big opportunity to make good money. But no, instead, we make these huge companies for mass meat production. My belief is that money has become so important that we're sacrificing the humane way to raise and process animals. With huge companies like this, many traditional ways of processing meat are been taken out of the equation. The large companies have machines and in alot of cases illegal workers for cheaper pay. There are many ways in which these animals are being treated inhumanely throughout these processes. At many mass chicken farms, the chickens are cramped in very tight quarters and deprived of sunlight in belief that this will make them grown faster. Can you imagine living your whole life with no sunlight at all? I have also seen footage of men walking through these barns while hitting the pigs with metal bars to herd them. In my mind, many aspects of this process are not right and need to be stopped.
Many of the ways they are treating these animals are just simply cruel. These companies want the fastest growth in the fastest amount of time which leads them to more money. Scientists have developed a way to use gene mutation to make the most desirable meat cut in that animal to become more abundant in less time. They are doing this to the point where these animals are still very young but have developed these adult body parts which refrain them from being able to walk. In my research, I have discovered the very dark side to mass meat producing factories and it is just a horrible sight. At a huge turkey farm on a film, there were men walking through the barn packed tight with turkeys and breaking the necks of the undesirable ones. Absolutely no animal should ever be treated this horrible even in meat production. Instead of taking the much needed time to raise and produce these animals naturally, we are letting the awful nature of mass meat production take over.
One of the main reasons for this high demand of meat in linked directly to fast food and other restraunts. We are paying our hard earned money for this low-class meat at fast food chains. These fast food restraunt owners are so selfish that they come up with these unhealthy meals that can kill us later in life all to make a little money. But money is the whole reason for this mass meat production in the first place. If you watch the news at all you have probably seen how many fast food chains and restraunts have been sued for undercooked or disease ridden food. This goes back to how under trained and how lacking of skills these fast food workers are. They are serving food to the public while undercooking the meat without even knowing it. If anyone knows what salmonella is knows that his can kill them. Not all cases are the fast food chains fault, however the dirty ways these huge companies are using to produce their meat is sometimes contaminating it. This can often lead to huge lawsuits and often the loss of some lives which makes you think is mass meat production really worth it?
Lets face it, I'm not a vegitarian nor will I ever be. I actually live on a small farm that raises beef cattle for slaughter. We treat our animals with care and let them live normal lives. They are sacrificing theirselves for us so we should treat them with care out of respect. When researching mass meat production, it was not suprising for me to have the urge of throwing up. Not many people stop to think about how the animal was raised, what is was feed, and overall how it was treated before they order that burger at dinner. Think about it next time and I bet you don't feel like eating.
